This past Tuesday saw the DVD and Blu-ray release of Kimberly Peirce’s Carrie remake, which I personally found to be yet another utterly pointless attempt to breathe new life into a popular fan-favorite horror movie. In fact, the film did absolutely nothing to breathe new life into the story of the telekinetic prom date, the filmmakers instead deciding to pretty much tell the exact same story, in the exact same way. If that’s not the very definition of pointless, then I’m honestly not sure what is.
Many fans were disappointed by the ending of the film, which replaced the frightening final jump scare in De Palma’s film with a far less memorable one. While I understand that going for the exact same jump scare would’ve been foolish, and far too predictable, the decision to forgo any attempt to end the film on an equally terrifying or memorable note, and instead let it fizzle out on a boring and uneventful one, was a pretty silly one.
It’s hard not to be annoyed by the lack of creativity or effort on display in the remake’s final moments, which sees Sue Snell visiting Carrie’s grave site, whereupon the headstone begins to crack, and Carrie’s voice is heard. And it’s even more annoying when you see what could’ve been…
The home video release of Carrie 2013 boasts an alternate ending to the film, which has just surfaced on YouTube. Not only is it quite different than the ending we saw in theaters, but it’s also totally batshit crazy…. and pretty damn awesome.
Remember how we found out Sue was pregnant, towards the end of the film? Well this wild alternate ending has a whole lot of fun with that, while at the same time paying homage to the original film’s ending. Check it out below, and let us know what ya think!
