Tonight was the annual MTV Movie Awards, and one of the most anticipated aspects of the show was the first teaser trailer for the network’s upcoming series based on the Scream movie franchise. The original film won the golden bucket of popcorn at 1997’s show, so it was only fitting that the teaser was debuted at this year’s event.
The small screen version of Scream centers around a YouTube video going viral that soon leads to problems for the teenagers of Lakewood and serves as the catalyst for a murder that opens up a window to the town’s troubled past.
Check out the trailer below, which features a hooded slasher but no sign of the iconic Ghostface mask. We had heard several months back that a new mask would be used for the show, and this series of clips seems to unfortunately confirm that rumor.
Scream premieres on MTV June 30th.
