HBO has pulled out all the stops in casting its new adaptation of Stephen King’s novel The Outsider.
The novel, which only released last May, was grabbed up almost immediately by Media Rights Capital and was eventually picked up for a limited series by HBO.
One part police procedural and one part supernatural horror, The Outsider centers on the investigation into the rape, mutilation, and killing of an 11 year old boy. What seems like an open and shut case soon becomes a tangled mess as Detective Ralph Anderson and private investigator Holly Gibney begin digging into the details of the case.
Fans of King will remember the character Holly Gibney from the popular Bill Hodges trilogy including Mr. Mercedes.
Ben Mendelsohn was previously announced to take on the role of Ralph Anderson. Joining him is Grammy and Tony Award winning actress Cynthia Erivo in the role of Holly Gibney. Erivo made a huge splash on Broadway when she opened in the revival of The Color Purple, and most recently appeared in Widows with Viola Davis and Michelle Rodriguez.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mare Winningham (American Horror Story) will also join the cast as Jeannie Anderson,
Bill Camp (The Night of), Paddy Considine (The Bourne Ultimatum), Yul Vazquez (American Gangster), Julianne Nicholson (August: Osage County), Jeremy Bobb (Godless), and Marc Menchaca (Ozark) fill out other roles in the principle cast.
Jason Bateman will serve as an executive producer on the show, and will also direct the first two episodes.
iHorror will keep you posted on casting news and more as it becomes available for this exciting new series.
