It’s almost hard to believe, but another Ghostbusters film is FINALLY on its way, after literally being rumored and talked about for decades. As we learned last year, it’s going be an all-female reboot, and today the cast of new Busters has been revealed!
THR reports that the Paul Feig-directed reboot is eying a summer shoot in New York City, with Bridesmaids stars Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy leading the pack. Rounding out the cast are Saturday Night Live‘s Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.
So, what do we know about the film, other than the fact that the title characters have undergone a sex change? Feig recently stated that the film will be PG-13 and “scarier than the original,” with no direct ties to the Ghostbusters movies we know and love.
“There’s the feeling that once the world knows ghosts and has seen them busted on such a large scale, they run the risk of becoming pedestrian,” said Feig. “There’s something fun about introducing our world, which has never seen ghosts, to the phenomenon of ghosts. I love origin stories and to introduce new characters.”
I don’t know about you, but I’m totally on board, as all of these ladies are hilarious and it’s nice to see something totally new being done with the franchise. If it doesn’t work, it won’t tarnish the originals. If it does, it should be a whole lot of fun. Nothing to lose, something to gain. Works for me.
