Goddamn I love October.
In what is becoming a glorious annual tradition, the beloved John Carpenter’s immortal classic Halloween is returning for another theatrical run this October. However, the slasher film from ’78 is not the only entry in the long running franchise to get a re-release! Sequels Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, are also scheduled to be shown in select theaters for the first time in close to 30 years for both films!
Holy crap guys. ALMOST 30 years since we first met little Jamie Lloyd.
According to HalloweenDailyNews, screenings of each film begin as early as October 13th, with multiple showings in the days after leading up till October 31st. The 2014 digitally remastered version of 1978’s Halloween is the version that will be shown this year along with a special interview recorded exclusively for the limited engagement with John Carpenter himself offering a little retrospective on his claim to horror fame.
Halloween 4 was originally released in October of 1988, and you’re welcome to disagree obviously, but this installment has one of the most beautiful opening shots of any horror film I’ve ever seen. The whole sinister tone of Fall and the tense music behind it really set the tone for the entire film.
Halloween 5, although not as strong as its predecessor, is still a fun movie to re-visit every now and again. If anything I can relive my Christmas outing ( yes CHRISTMAS outing) from 1989 and see it once more on the big screen to bask in a little nostalgia.
