Last year, fans were forced to deal with the decidedly not groovy circumstance of Starz abruptly canceling Ash vs Evil Dead without a proper resolution. To me, it was the saddest premature TV demise since Hannibal.
While Bruce Campbell has declared his retirement as Ash – and at age 60, he’s certainly entitled to do that – the beloved horror icon will soon return to TV screens as host of a new incarnation of Ripley’s Believe It or Not!.
According to Deadline, Bruce Campbell is set to both host and executive produce the new series, which will premiere sometime in summer 2019. This latest Ripley’s Believe It or Not! show will air on the Travel Channel.
The Ripley’s Believe It or Not! brand was created way back in 1918, and focuses on strange and unusual happenings, people and things. It first came to TV in 1949, then again in the 1980s, then once more in the early 2000s.
Travel Channel has so far ordered 10 episodes of the Campbell-hosted Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, but one assumes more will come if enough people tune in. The series will be filmed at Ripley’s famous HQ in Orlando, FL.
Signing up Campbell as host was a smart move, as his name recognition and fanbase will likely lure in many viewers to the new show. After that, it’ll be up to the strength of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! to keep them there.
