Blumhouse’s Freaky just landed at theaters and drive-ins today. A Friday the 13th release for this one is very apt, considering most of the film occurs on the very same day. The film, a horror twist of Freaky Friday is a ton of fun, and really deserves the high rating it currently has on Rotten Tomatoes.
While Freaky just arrived in theaters, the very stark reality of COVID numbers being on the rise might make some folks rightly not want to brave going to the theater. Good news for those folks, Christopher Landon’s Freaky will be coming to VOD later this month.
That news comes from Blumhouse founder, Jason Blum, who post to Twitter to announce that we only have to wait”17 days.” That was post on Nov. 12. So it looks like Freaky will hit your VOD platforms in just 2 weeks and some change.
The synopsis for Freaky goes like this:
A mystical, ancient dagger causes a notorious serial killer to magically switch bodies with a 17-year-old girl.
This might be a new model for theatrical releases in COVID times. We have seen the formula constantly played with for a bit. Some are going with the same day $20 dollar VOD price while others are giving it a couple of weeks. It will be interesting to see how all of this effects the industry in the long run.
