To me, horror movies and metal music go hand in hand – so I’m a big fan of Blood and Guts with Scott Ian. The web series is hosted by Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, a genre aficionado, as he gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at how some of the all-time greatest practical effects artists create the gore and monsters that genre fans love.

The third season has returned with an episode featuring Johnny Depp’s regular makeup designer, Joel Harlow (Star Trek, Pirates of the Caribbean). Harlow shares his practical approach to doing makeup on blockbusters and transforms Scott into a creature inspired by H.P. Lovecraft. Watch the episode now:

It’s a fun episode, and there are four more to look forward to. A new installment will debut every Thursday, leading up to the season finale on Halloween. Guests will include John Murdy and Larry Bones (Halloween Horror Nights), Tony Gardner (Army of Darkness, Zombieland) and Vincent Guastini (Requiem for a Dream, Dogma). The finale serve as a tribute to the late, great Stan Winston, with input from such collaborators as Matt Winston, Howard Berger and Lance Anderson.

Blood and Guts with Scott Ian is produced and directed by Jack Bennett for Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist Channel. Bennett will be appearing at the 10th annual Rock and Shock horror convention in Worcester, MA on October 18-20 to screen episodes and discuss the show.
