Robert Eggers became an instant legend following the release of his debut film The VVitch in 2015. He’s continued to impress with the surreal follow up The Lighthouse only this last year. Now, we’ve heard from a social media post that musician Björk will be starring in Eggers’ upcoming The Northman, as the “Slav Witch.”

Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, Anya Taylor-Joy, Kate Dickey, Bill and Alexander Skarsgård and Claes Bang are also allegedly starring.
This will be the first time Björk has starred in a movie since Lars Von Trier’s Dancer in the Dark in 2000. The role garnered her acclaim and she went on to receive the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival as well as the film winning the Palme d’Or, the top award at Cannes. It also had a was nominated for best song in the 2001 Academy Awards. She has hinted in previous interviews that her reluctance to return to acting was due to abusive behavior by Von Trier during the filming.
So far what is known about the plot is that it focuses on a Nordic prince seeking revenge over the murder of his father in Iceland at the beginning of the 10th century. Claes Bang (Dracula) has stated that it will be like a “scary and bloody” Hamlet.
The Northman does not have an official release date at the moment, but most likely won’t be coming until late 2021. Unfortunately for Eggers and us, production was about to start when the pandemic started, forcing them to stop.
With the news of Björk’s casting we can only hope that we one day get to see this star-studded Viking revenge flick. Keep up with iHorror for any updates on The Northman!
