It’s been almost ten years since the release of director Ruben Fleischer’s Zombieland, one of the best zombie films of its decade, and one of my all-time favorites. I’ve always wanted a sequel, but doubted one would happen.
Thankfully, the horror gods have smiled upon us, as Zombieland 2 is finally happening, with Fleischer back at the helm, and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick back too. Also returning is the main quartet of characters.
Production is set to begin in January, and now, The GWW has reported something pretty awesome about the new movie. According to them, Ghostbusters vets Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd have joined the cast.
Anyone who’s seen the first Zombieland no doubt has fond memories of Bill Murray’s cameo as an exaggerated version of himself, which saw multiple references to Ghostbusters. Bringing in Aykroyd this time is a logical move.
The only thing that doesn’t really make sense is that Murray died on camera in Zombieland, so it remains to be seen how exactly they’ll bring him back. Perhaps he’ll be a zombie now, and Aykroyd will have to put him down.
Assuming this report is correct, Murray and Aykroyd will join returning stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin. Zombieland 2 shambles its way into theaters on October 11th, 2019.
