Beyond the Woods is a Canadian psychological thriller that made waves on the independent film festival circuit in 2019. In a new announcement from Vortex Media, we’ve learned that it will be available for home viewing this December. The film will be released in the US, Australia and New Zealand exclusively on Tubi — the streaming app that trades free content for occasional ad breaks — on December 1st. Canadians will be able to watch On Demand and Digital HD on December 15th.
Beyond the Woods follows Detective Reeves’ investigation after the mysterious death of Laura Bennett and the disappearance of her brother Jack. The suspect at hand is Laura’s husband Andrew, who seems to be the only one to know where Jack really is. Detective Reeves must solve this never-ending puzzle, as Jack’s odds of survival are against him.
“Beyond the Woods is a psychological thriller at first glance, but the deeper you dig, it becomes so much more. This story is about family, loss, grief, survival, and how human nature can dramatically influence a situation, for better or for worse.” says director Brayden DeMorest-Purdy. “I hope this film will make audiences think and spark critical debate.”
The film stars Steven Roberts (In God I Trust, Tully), who also co-wrote the film alongside DeMorest-Purdy, and was nominated for a Leo Award for his performance. Jeff Evans-Todd (When We Rise), Broadus Mattison and Christie Burke (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Recon) also star.
“We are extremely excited to be bringing Beyond The Woods to audiences in North America and throughout the world. Brayden DeMorest-Purdy is an exceptionally talented young director who we are proud to be partnering with.” Shares Rob Harrison, EVP of Distribution and Marketing for Vortex Media.
Echoing this sentiment, DeMorest-Purdy says “Partnering with Vortex Media is a filmmaker’s dream come true. As a filmmaker, you always want the best for your film. And Vortex has done that for us. They have a dedicated team that not only share the same excitement and goals for our film, but bring a high value to the team with fresh marketing strategies and long-term goals. Our partnership with Vortex Media has brought our dreams into reality, and we look forward to the future with them.”
After playing festivals worldwide such as Indie Suspense Horror Sci-Fi Film Festival (Florida), Festival of Fear International Film Festival (Edmonton), Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival, Kamloops Film Festival, Los Angeles Crime and Horror Film Festival, Derby Film Festival (UK), and Melbourne Lift Off Film Festival among others, Beyond the Woods will be coming to a TV screen near you.
