If you’ve played “Grand Theft Auto” and you thought it would be better as a stripped-down, atmospheric and creepy driving horror game, the “Beware” demo could be the video game for you.
The PC demo pits you behind the wheel of a banged up car, trying to outrun unknown enemies who want to run you off the road. It’s dark and foggy out, and while there aren’t many enemies in the demo, it gets intense when they show up. Your only option is to put the pedal to the medal without crashing.
Knowing that you can end up in a high-speed chase at any moment will give you serious paranoia when you’re checking your rearview mirror. You find yourself holding your breath when it’s quiet, waiting for headlights to appear behind you.
Here’s a gameplay video from Youtube user Ray Fields:
Originally titled “Driving Survival,” the game will have a whole story when it gets a full release. Here’s creator Ondrej Svadlena explaining the project on its IndieDB page:
“Beware is currently in early development. At the base, it’s an open-world driving simulation where the player embarks on a long journey of information-gathering through exploration. One of the gameplay elements are intense, 70’s movies style, car chases with challenging AI opponents. There are stealth element too where you can avoid being detected and explore the world undisturbed.”
