After over two decades of dormancy – aside from 2013’s Fede Alvarez remake – the 2015 premiere of Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead TV show brought Sam Raimi’s classic Evil Dead franchise roaring back to life. Praised by critics and loved by most fans, Ash vs Evil Dead season 1 was a big hit all around.
Arguably, a small part of this success might have been due to Starz making the bold move of renewing Ash for season 2 before the first episode had even aired, effectively telling fans “give this show a shot, we’re not bailing on it any time soon.” In a world where many genre shows meet quick deaths due to low ratings, it’s nice to know that a new show is guaranteed at least 2 seasons.
While Ash vs Evil Dead didn’t receive another pre-season renewal this time out, it’s getting the next best thing, as Starz has opted to pick the series up for season 3 less than a week after season 2 premiered. This assures fans yet another 10 episodes of Ash and company dismembering Deadites with chainsaws, battling forces of evil older than human society itself, and deadpan snarking about it the whole time. Groovy.
The remaining 9 episodes of Ash vs Evil Dead season 2 air Sundays at 8pm EST on Starz. Season 3 will likely premiere along the same October time frame as its predecessors.
