Of all the iconic horror franchises of the 1980s and 90s, few have received the level of shabby treatment on U.S. Blu-Ray that Hellraiser has endured. While Anchor Baby put out a pretty good disc of the original Clive Barker-directed Hellraiser film back in 2009, the sequels have been treated like utter garbage, disappointing the series’ legion of stateside fans.

To date, Hellbound: Hellraiser II has only received a barebones BD release from Image Entertainment, featuring a terrible transfer that barely qualifies as HD and in some ways looks worse then the 20th anniversary DVD previously released by Anchor Bay. Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth has yet to hit U.S. Blu-Ray at all, and has only ever been released stateside on a barebones Paramount DVD. Hellraisers Bloodline, Inferno, Hellseeker, Deader, and Hellworld are all technically on Blu-Ray, but they were farmed out by Dimension Films to budget label Echo Bridge, which proceeded to release transfers so poor they often resemble DVD upscales. In short, the story of Hellraiser on high-def disc in the U.S. has been quite sad.

Thankfully, Arrow Video – in its continued push into the U.S. market – has just announced their next Blu-Ray release, and it’s one sure to bring a twisted smile to every Cenobite-lover out there. While sadly not a full series set, Hellraiser: The Scarlet Box collection contains the first three Hellraiser films, which most fans would easily admit are the best entries in the franchise.

Packaged in the titular Scarlet Box, the limited edition collection contains 4 discs, one for each of the included movies, and another of extra features celebrating creator Clive Barker’s work. Hellraisers I-III have all received brand new 2k restorations, and come complete with DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks. Better yet, each movie’s disc is equipped with a boatload of extra features, some from prior releases and others new to the Scarlet Box. Hell on Earth’s BD even includes both the theatrical and unrated cuts of the film.

Hellraiser: The Scarlet Box Blu-Ray collection hits shelves December 13th. Full content listings for all 4 discs are below. Truly, Arrow Video has such sights to show us.
