Deadline is reporting that French distribution company Reel Suspects has picked up international sales rights to writer/director Laura Casabé’s Los Que Vuelven aka The Returned.
Set in 1919, the film centers on a landowner’s wife who, after multiple miscarriages, asks her indigenous housekeeper to bring her stillborn child back to life. The woman works the ritual, but the child doesn’t return alone.
This is Casabé’s third feature in the director’s chair and she’s been making waves since her debut with El Hada Buena-Una Fabula Peronista.
The Returned stars Alberto Ajaka, Edgardo Castro, Javier Drolas, Lali Gonzalez, and Maria Soldi.
The film will debut this week at Argentina’s Mar del Plata film festival.
