Ah, the Hollywood release date merry-go-round. Every day, studios are shuffling around their movies to different dates, in an attempt to find the best place to put them, or at least avoid stiff competition from rival studios.
According to Deadline, two highly anticipated franchise sequels are now headed to theaters slightly sooner, which is never a bad thing for impatient fans. I know I sure wish IT: Chapter Two’s release date would get moved up.
Anyway, Warner Bros. has bumped up the release date for both Annabelle 3 – which still doesn’t have an official title – and Godzilla Vs. Kong, which follows 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters in Legendary’s MonsterVerse.
Annabelle 3 had previously been dated for July 3rd, but will now come out on June 28th, giving it an extra jump on the Fourth of July weekend traffic, and also some extra lead time before Marvel’s Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Meanwhile, Godzilla Vs. Kong had been set to smash into theaters on May 22nd, 2020, but will now roar more than two months earlier on March 13th, 2020. The big behemoths likely moved to get away from Fast & Furious 9.
Warner Bros. also announced a July 16th, 2021 release date for Space Jam 2, which sees Lebron James take over for original star Michael Jordan. I know that’s not horror, I’m just in shock that they’re making another Space Jam.
