In the current age of TV reboots and revivals, it seems inevitable that just about every show with a loyal fanbase will someday be brought back. That’s already the case for Joss Whedon creation Buffy the Vampire Slayer, set to be rebooted with a new African-American slayer.
However, one show there hasn’t been hints of a return for yet is Angel, the Buffy spinoff starring David Boreanaz as the titular vampire with a soul. Angel went on to run for five seasons of its own, and there are some fans of the franchise who actually prefer it to Buffy.
Those craving a new dose of Angel might be in luck though, as during a recent appearance on CBS daytime chat show The Talk, Boreanaz not so subtly hinted that a reunion or revival might be in order. After all, Angel is preparing to celebrate its 20th anniversary later this year.
While on The Talk, Boreanaz said the following about Angel: “We’re coming up on 20 years. I mean, that’s amazing to have been blessed with a show like that and that’s where I really started my gig – this acting world. I love that character. So, I will say there may be something coming up. I don’t want to give away much. I can say, it’s 20 years coming up this fall and we may have something in the works.”
So, what do the Whedon-verse devotees among us think? Should an Angel reunion or revival happen? Will it? Does Boreanaz still look young enough to play an ageless vampire? Should Buffy make an appearance? It’ll be interesting to see what ultimately happens in 2019.
