There have been many fan theories in regards to the secretive plot of American Horror Story: Hotel, and one of the possibilities we reported on is that the season will draw inspiration from the mysterious death of Elisa Lam. Today, series creator Ryan Murphy has finally confirmed those rumors.
Per Variety, Murphy has revealed that Hotel is indeed inspired by the strange story of Lam, a student whose dead body was found in a California hotel’s water supply tank in 2013. Surveillance footage shot prior to Lam’s disappearance shows her exhibiting strange behavior, appearing to be possessed.
“It is called ‘Hotel’ and it’s set in a hotel,” Murphy went on to note at today’s Television Critics Association press tour, disclosing that the hotel will be set in downtown L.A but still remaining fairly tight-lipped about specific plot details. “We deal with a lot of American horrors, [including] addiction.”
Newcomer Lady Gaga leads the cast of American Horror Story: Hotel as the evil owner of the hotel, while Sarah Paulson returns to the show as a “sexy,” “vile,” and “nasty” drug addict named Hypodermic Sally.
Kathy Bates, Matt Bomer, Angela Bassett, Evan Peters, Naomi Campbell, Finn Wittrock, Lily Rabe, Denis O’Hare, Chloe Sevigny, Max Greenfield, Darren Criss, Cheyenne Jackson and Wes Bentley fill out the cast.
