You may best know is work from the popular zombie/love story Warm Bodies, but 7 years ago Director Jonathan Levine was a new comer on the scene with the horror movie All The Boys Love Mandy Lane.

The movie first debuted at the 2006 Toronto Film Festival in the Midnight Madness Section.  So why the long delay?  We’ll it seems to be a bad luck tale of rights being acquired and businesses going bankrupt.

All The Boys Love Mandy Lane

Distribution rights were originally won by the people that brought us the Scream franchise –  The Weinstein Company’s Dimension label.  It originally seemed like a deal everyone was happy with – at least up until their newly released Grindhouse made a disastrous debut at the box office.   With this huge financial hit, the Weinstein Company decided to sell the rights.  In came Senator Entertainment to pick up the film…only to go bankrupt.

There the film sat in every filmmakers nightmare – distribution purgatory.  Then earlier this year the Weinstein Company announced that they had come back to rescue the film they had doomed to begin with, reacquiring the rights and scheduling a release for this year.

Following a formula the Weinstein Company has done before – they will release the film on VOD September 6th, then the film will finally arrive back in theaters October 11th.

So I guess the question is – will the movie be worth the wait?
