by Jacob Davison

It’s been several months since the James Cameron produced, Robert Rodriguez directed manga adaptation Alita: Battle Angel hit theaters. The cyberpunk epic currently set for a July 23rd home video release, so of course there’s all kinds of promotions to go with it. Most prominently some displays and events at one fo the largest anime conventions in the country, Anime Expo!

To promote the upcoming blu-ray/dvd/4K release, 20th Century Fox’s Alita: Battle Angel had a couple of sites and events. The Expo’s manga library featured a couple of props form the film, including the deadly Damascus Blade and a cyborg skull that Christoph Waltz’s character of Dr. Ido looks through.

And nearby the convention center was an incredible, large scale mural was painted showcasing star Rosa Salazar’s Alita and panels from the manga by Yukito Kishiro. The mural was created by artist Cloe Hakakian and non-profit group, Beautify Earth. Also featuring a Facebook AR code that fans could take pictures of to unlock content. Fans were also encouraged to post with and about the mural with the hashtag taken from Alita’s line #IDoNotStandBy.
