Admittedly, I have still not watched the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. It seemed to soon in 2009 when it was released in theaters and to be honest it still feels too soon now. I’m not sure what it is about Nightmare that makes it such a hard remake but I’m guessing it has to do with Robert Englund and his involvement or lack there of.
We have got pretty chill on the remake front. Sure, we all scream obscenities about our childhood or a classic being ruined but for the most part remakes become accepted. Halloween, Evil Dead and Dawn of the Dead have all been treated pretty fairly despite the reworkings. However, Nightmare… not so much.
I’ve seen clips of the remake and Jackie Earle Haley seems to be doing interesting work, in walking a line between something original and Englund’s performance. But, it never brought me over to watch the film. I’m still very against the choices that were made on Krueger’s makeup. The choice to make him look like an actual burn victim is a bizarre one.
All that being said. I think I’m finally going to give it a watch. It is currently streaming on Netflix and I even added it to my queue. There is a part of me that prays, I have been wrong all these years. Maybe it’s great? Maybe my allegiance to Robert Englund’s Krueger robbed me of a great time I would have had with the remake? Okay, probably not, but in either case it is on Netlfix for your viewing pleasure. Or, lack there of. You be the judge.
Do we have any Nightmare remake fans? Did anyone find any of it enjoyable? We would love to hear from you. Let us know in the comments section.
