Deadline reports Gabriel Luna has been tapped to star as The Terminator in the upcoming reboot! Luna is best known for his work as the Ghost Rider in Agents of Shield, and you may also remember him from Matador, and True Detective. Natalia Reyes (Lady, La Vendedora de Rosas) and Diego Boneta (Rock of Ages, Scream Queens) have also been announced to star in the film. Their roles have not yet been revealed.
They will be joining Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049, Catch Fire), Linda Hamilton as the infamous heroine Sarah Connor, and the machine who started it all Arnold Schwarzenegger. Deadpool’s Tim Miller is set to direct the reboot, while James Cameron will finally be returning to the franchise as a producer. We learned last week that the film’s release has been pushed back to November 22nd, 2019.
Luna was a surprise casting choice for the role, but, then again, so was the intimidating Robert Patrick in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Tim Miller and James Cameron have stressed in an interview with THR how absolutely determined they are to bring the franchise back to its former glory. Films like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Blade Runner 2049 were extremely successful at passing the torch to fresh, new actors. Can the Terminator reboot do the same?
It’s exciting to see them pick an up-and-coming actor who can disappear in the role of the Skynet robotic assassin. The young actor obviously made a great impression on Miller and Cameron to score a role so near and dear to them.
