It’s not all that often that a horror movie comes along with a genuinely unique concept, which has led many to wonder if there are even any good ideas left. Films like A Nightmare on Elm Street changed the horror game in a big way, but lately it seems like everything is totally devoid of originality.
Set for release this coming May, Oculus director Mike Flanagan’s Before I Wake looks to put an inventive little twist on a familiar tale, exploring the Elm Street-inspired horrors of nightmares come to life…
In the supernatural thriller, Jessie and Mark decide to take in a sweet and loving 8-year-old boy, Cody. Unbeknownst to them, Cody is terrified of falling asleep. At first they assume his previous unstable homes caused his aversion to sleep but soon discover why: Cody’s dreams manifest in reality as he sleeps.
In one moment they experience the incredible wonder of Cody’s imagination and in the next the horrific nature of his night terrors. To save their new family, Jessie and Mark embark on a dangerous hunt to uncover the truth behind Cody’s nightmares.
