So you’ve gained a little weight over the past year and you aren’t sure which diet plan you want to start in 2018. Well, thankfully we as horror fans may already be on one and not know it.
New York’s The Daily News reports that a study conducted by the University of Westminster showed people who watch terrifying films burn a significant amount of calories.
Ten films were put to the test, and surprisingly the average amount of calories lost was 113.
“Each of the 10 films tested set pulses racing, sparking an increase in the heart rate of the case studies. As the pulse quickens and blood pumps around the body faster, the body experiences a surge in adrenaline,” said Dr. Richard Mackenzie.
He adds: “It is this release of fast-acting adrenaline, produced during short bursts of intense stress (or in this case, brought on by fear), which is known to lower the appetite, increase the basal metabolic rate and ultimately burn a higher level of calories.”
So which 10 films were tested, and had the best results? Here they are—-just a side-note, if you plan on snacking during the movie, you may negate all your hard couch-crunching reps.
