‘Voyage Of Time: The IMAX Experience’- 40 Years In The Making
This past week iHorror was graciously given the opportunity to step out of the horror realm and enter a world of science and discovery at the red carpet Los Angeles premiere of Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience, narrated by Brad Pitt. Directed by Terrance Malick, the film focuses on the origins of the universe covering the birth of stars and galaxies, the beginning of life on our planet and the evolution of a variety of species. Simply put, it is our story, the story of our universe.
The red carpet event was mind blowing with the hustle and bustle of camera operators and photographers; excitement filled the air as the production team hit the red carpet along with celebrity guests. Everyone was cheerful and eager to speak about their experiences and their place with the film. I was enjoying myself, however yearning to watch this film, I couldn’t help whisking out my smartphone every so often checking the time, counting down the minutes until I could witness this ultimate journey through time.
Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience offers a one-of-a-kind peek at life, teleporting audiences through a personal journey covering a collage of magnificent effects that recreate the creation of the universe, life on earth (including the Jurassic period), all leading up to present time. It overwhelming projects a clear sense of justification of human existence. The film was not boring by any means and spans the perfect length of an uninterrupted 45 minutes allowing audiences to glide through like a peaceful dream. The narration by Brad Pitt was compelling, nurturing, and full of optimism, similar to a father reading to his child before turning in for the evening. I sat in awe as I bared witness to images of destructive storms, formations of various rocks, and big city life, I felt as if I was flying over everything. The beauty of our universe was revealed in 45 minutes and will change the perspectives of many.
Audiences will either embrace this vision of our universe or reject it altogether; there is no in between. Director Terrance Malick proficiently captures the magnificence of life and the universe. The Voyage of Time will live on for generations to come and will serve as visual aide making minds ponder for not only the public but for students and educators all over the world.
Something wonderful has been created. Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience will be available in IMAX theaters on October 7th, 2016. Take advantage of this golden opportunity. This film comes with the highest of recommends and congratulations to all involved.
Thank You
During a Red Carpet Interview With IMAX, This is what Dan Glass, Visual Effects Supervisor had to say about the film and Director Terrance Malick:
Well, I think part of what Terry [Director] is trying to encourage is that people are with us on the experience and first and foremost, shown and hopefully appreciate and wonder what is there. To really be able to look at life and what is immediately around us and to think about what’s beyond and really how we ended up here in the first place. And from that raise the questions and curiosity to look into it, because it is fascinating. It has been an incredible blessing to be involved with this project and have the chance to talk to some of the scientists and understand more about their thoughts and theories on how we ended up where we are has been very exciting and fulfilling.
The process has always been very collaborative with Terry he is a highly collaborative filmmaker. We reached out at his guidance to many, many artists and contributors around the planet that had either done works that we were interested in already or had a style or even a sensitivity to some of the subjects that we were handling. And we would either commission or license and involve them in our process as best we could. So it really became this collection of myriad ideas and contributions rather like the story of life itself. It is full of many examples and a variety of things.
We always set out to make it an IMAX Experience. I think for a combination of reasons: One, it makes it very experiential, you’re not aware of the sides of the frame, so you feel in the journey and on the journey which was really always the intent. Obviously, the scale that you can work at is both a challenge in terms of the needs and demands of the image but, also exciting you can put in incredible detail in the frame that you really can’t or have the opportunity with the smaller formats.

‘The Strangers’ Invaded Coachella in Instagramable PR Stunt
Renny Harlin’s reboot of The Strangers isn’t coming out until May 17, but those murderous home invaders are making a pit stop at Coachella first.
In the latest Instagramable PR stunt, the studio behind the film decided to have the trio of masked intruders crash Coachella, a music festival that takes place for two weekends in Southern California.
This type of publicity began when Paramount did the same thing with their horror movie Smile in 2022. Their version had seemingly ordinary people in populated places look directly into a camera with an evil grin.
Harlin’s reboot is actually a trilogy with a more expansive world than that of the original.
“When setting out to remake The Strangers, we felt there was a bigger story to be told, which could be as powerful, chilling, and terrifying as the original and could really expand that world,” said producer Courtney Solomon. “Shooting this story as a trilogy allows us to create a hyperreal and terrifying character study. We’re fortunate to be joining forces with Madelaine Petsch, an amazing talent whose character is the driving force of this story.”
The movie follows a young couple (Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez) who “after their car breaks down in an eerie small town, are forced to spend the night in a remote cabin. Panic ensues as they are terrorized by three masked strangers who strike with no mercy and seemingly no motive in The Strangers: Chapter 1 the chilling first entry of this upcoming horror feature film series.”
The Strangers: Chapter 1 opens in theaters on May 17.

‘Alien’ Returning to Theaters For a Limited Time
It’s been 45 years since Ridley Scott’s Alien hit theaters and in celebration of that milestone, it is headed back to the big screen for a limited time. And what better day to do that than Alien Day on April 26?
It also works as a primer for the upcoming Fede Alvarez sequel Alien: Romulus opening on August 16. A special feature in which both Alvarez and Scott discuss the original sci-fi classic will be shown as a part of your theater admission. Take a look at the preview of that conversation below.
Back in 1979, the original trailer for Alien was kind of terrifying. Imagine sitting in front of a CRT TV (Cathode Ray Tube) at night and suddenly Jerry Goldsmith’s haunting score begins to play as a giant chicken egg starts to crack with beams of light bursting through the shell and the word “Alien” slowly forms in slanted all caps across the screen. To a twelve-year-old, it was a scary pre-bedtime experience, especially Goldsmith’s screaming electronic musical flourishes playing over scenes of the actual movie. Let the “Is it horror or sci-fi?” debate begin.
Alien became a pop culture phenomenon, complete with kid’s toys, a graphic novel, and an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. It also inspired dioramas in wax museums and even a frightening setpiece at Walt Disney World in the now-defunct Great Movie Ride attraction.
The film stars Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, and John Hurt. It tells the tale of a futuristic crew of blue-collar workers suddenly awakened out of stasis to investigate an undecipherable distress signal coming from a nearby moon. They investigate the source of the signal and discover it’s a warning and not a cry for help. Unbeknownst to the crew, they have brought a giant space creature back on board which they find out in one of the most iconic scenes in cinema history.
It is said that Alvarez’s sequel will pay homage to the original film’s storytelling and set design.
The Alien theatrical re-release will take place on April 26. Pre-order your tickets and find out where Alien will screen at a theater near you.
