This past August, Adam Green surprised everyone with a secretly-made, fully finished presentation of the fourth entry in the Hatchet series. He managed to keep Victor Crowley under wraps and covertly released it to an audience of unsuspecting fans who gathered to view a Hatchet 10th-anniversary screening.
Essentially, he Lemonaded us.
A new trailer has just been released to properly pump-up fans for the film’s (now publicly announced) February 6th DVD/Blu-ray/VOD release.
The iconic Kane Hodder has played the hulking hatchet-wielding killer in every entry to the franchise, lending his strong, silent gravitas to the role of Victor Crowley.
Writer/director Adam Green was content with keeping the Hatchet series as a trilogy until he had a heart-to-heart with the late, great George A. Romero following the death of fellow horror legend Wes Craven.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Green stated;
George said, ‘I know you’ve been going through a rough time, I know you’ve been taking Wes’s passing personally — you have to get over that, and get back on your feet.’ And as part of his pep talk he had said, ‘So, where’s the next Crowley picture?’ And I said, ‘There isn’t going to be one, I’m done with that.’ And he pointed to this standing ovation in the audience and he said, ‘You’ve got to understand, ’til they say it’s over, it isn’t.’ Forty-eight hours later, I’m back in L.A., and I’m sitting at my desk, and I’m typing ‘Ext. Honey Island Swamp. Night.’
I caught Victor Crowley as part of the Toronto After Dark film festival (you can read my review here) and absolutely loved it. It’s outrageously fun and chock-full of spectacular, gory splatter. I’m definitely looking forward to adding this DVD to my collection.
