“This isn’t a tomb. It’s a prison.”

I’ll admit it. I was very, very, skeptical when it was announced that Tom Cruise was going to star in Universal’s The Mummy reboot. But honestly, it’s starting to look pretty damn awesome. Today, Universal Pictures revealed a new trailer for the film, which features a super chilling underwater scene at 2:04. Taking notes from the IT trailer, perhaps?

A few things about this:

I’m really digging the new female mummy. I think this is great, if for nothing else than it feels less like a reboot and more like an original story. Her design is pretty awesome, as well.

It’s fairly clear by now that this isn’t going to be a quiet movie in any regard. It likely has more in common than Brendan Frasier’s Mummy than the original starring Boris Karloff in 1932. I could only describe the film as what looks to be action-packed excursion with more than a few scares littered throughout, but we are clearly not getting a straightforward horror film. Which I am fine with; there’s nothing wrong with having a little fun with our horror now and then.

It’s now safe to say that I am very excited.

The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Sofia Boutella, Russell Crow, and Jake Johnson is set for awakening on June 9th, 2017. The film was written by Christopher McQaurrie and Jon Spaihts and directed by Alex Kurtzman.

In The Mummy:

An ancient princess is awakened from her crypt beneath the desert, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia, and terrors that defy human comprehension.
