Hey Tightwads! It’s that time of the week again. Time for more free movies from Tightwad Terror Tuesday and iHorror. So here they are, submitted for your approval…
Deep Blue Sea
Deep Blue Sea is about a group of researchers in an undersea lab who genetically enlarge the brains of sharks in order to study the effects of Alzheimer’s disease. Of course, the big-brained sharks rebel and start systematically hunting the humans. This 1999 sharksploitation flick was directed by Renny Harlin and features an all-star cast which includes Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Rapaport, Stellan Skarsgard, LL Cool J, Thomas Jane, Saffron Burrows, and Jacqueline McKenzie. It’s also got one of the greatest death scenes of all time (NO SPOILERS!). Dive into Deep Blue Sea here at Crackle.
Big Ass Spider!
Big Ass Spider! is one of those movies where everything you need to know is right there in the title. It is, of course, about a giant alien spider that wreaks havoc on Los Angeles and the exterminator who is tasked with stopping it. Made in 2013, this modern-day creature feature was directed by Mike Mendez and stars Lin Shaye, Ray Wise, and Greg Grunberg…and one big ass spider. See it for yourself right here at Vudu.
A while back, Tightwad Terror Tuesday brought you the sequel to Lake Placid, appropriately entitled Lake Placid 2. Now, it is our pleasure to provide you with the original. Lake Placid is a 1999 thriller about a giant crocodile that resides in a lake and feeds upon anyone unlucky enough to get within range of his razor sharp teeth. Directed by Steve Miner, this is another flick with a star-studded cast which includes Bridget Fonda, Bill Pullman, Betty White, Oliver Platt, Brendan Gleeson, Mariska Hargitay, and Meredith Salenger. This one is pure exploitation fun. Check out Lake Placid here at Crackle.
There quite possibly has never been a more aptly titled movie than Wild Beasts. This 1984 Italian eco-horror flick is about a zoo full of animals who go, well, wild when the zoo’s water supply gets contaminated with PCP. In their drug-induced insanity, all of the lions, tigers, and elephants run amok through the city, tormenting and terrorizing any humans who are unlucky enough to cross them. One word of warning: like many Italian horror movies of the eighties (*cough* Cannibal Holocaust *cough*), Wild Beasts does have a bit of animal violence in it, but the critters dish out more than they take. If you’re ready for some crazy animals, Wild Beasts waits for you right here at Popcornflix.
Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau
In 1996, a production of H.G. Wells’ The Island of Dr. Moreau unceremoniously fired director Richard Stanley and replaced him with John Frankenheimer. Of course, there’s much more to the story than that, and that’s what Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau is all about. This 2014 documentary tells Stanley’s side of the tumultuous production, mostly in his own words, and it’s both infuriating and hilarious, but always entertaining. Highlights include awesome stories about Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer, as well as an interview with Fairuza Balk where she pretty much defends Stanley. Get the real scoop, or at least the real scoop according to Stanley, right here at Popcornflix.
