‘Stranger Things’ Season 2’s New Creature Could Be a ‘Shadow Monster’

Published

on

As new details on the second season of “Stranger Things” come out, we’re starting to learn more about the new big baddie.

Since the Season 2 trailer was unveiled in February, people have been speculating about that giant monster that first appeared in a drawing, and then showed up looming over treetops.

Even before the trailer, many fans were predicting the appears of something resembling a Thessalhydra, a monster featured in Dungeons & Dragons. When the boys ended the first season with a rousing game of D&D, they faced off against one. After all, they had faced off against a Demogorgon in their previous campaign, and when they encountered a monster in real life they referred to it by the same name. So, it’s only logical to think that another creature in the series will resemble an entry from the Monster Manual.

The Thessalhydra

According to the old Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual, the Thesalhydra “resembles an eight-headed hydra. It has a large, reptilian torso and tail measuring 30 feet long (8 feet tall at the shoulder). Eight serpentine heads surround a large, circular month rimmed with jagged teeth.”

That giant thing in the trailer looked more like a tentacled Lovecraftian horror, but you can definitely see the similarities. After all, the “Demogorgon” in the show wasn’t exactly like the D&D monster.

The Shadow Monster

In a recent TV Guide article, the stars shared some more information on this creature. Finn Wolfhard (Mike), said “The Shadow monster, the new one, the big one in the sky, that was crazy for us.”

Calling it a “shadow monster” raises some questions. Does it have some control over shadows? Does it only appear in the shadows? Or was he just describing its shadowy appearance? Or it could be that the creature hails from The Upside Down, “a shadow realm?”

One thing we do know is that whatever that thing is, whatever our heroes face in Season 2 is going to “make that Demogorgon look quaint in retrospect,” according to executive producer Shawn Levy.

Arcadian Movie Trailer

The Motion Picture Association (MPA) has given this film an “R” rating for its “bloody images,” hinting at the visceral and intense experience awaiting viewers. Winnie the Pooh 3

Wow, they’re churning things out fast! The upcoming sequel “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3” is officially moving forward, promising an expanded narrative with a larger budget and the introduction of beloved characters from A.A. Milne’s original tales. As confirmed by Variety, the third installment in the horror franchise will welcome Rabbit, the heffalumps, and the woozles into its dark and twisted narrative.

This sequel is a part of an ambitious cinematic universe that reimagines children’s stories as horror tales. Alongside “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” and its first sequel, the universe includes films such as “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare”, “Bambi: The Reckoning,” and “Pinocchio Unstrung”. These movies are set to converge in the crossover event “Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble,” slated for a 2025 release.

Winnie the Pooh Poohniverse

The creation of these films was made possible when A.A. Milne’s 1926 children’s book “Winnie-the-Pooh” entered the public domain last year, allowing filmmakers to explore these cherished characters in unprecedented ways. Director Rhys Frake-Waterfield and producer Scott Jeffrey Chambers, of Jagged Edge Productions, have led the charge in this innovative endeavor.

The inclusion of Rabbit, heffalumps, and woozles in the upcoming sequel introduces a new layer to the franchise. In Milne’s original stories, heffalumps are imagined creatures resembling elephants, while woozles are known for their weasel-like characteristics and a penchant for stealing honey. Their roles in the narrative remain to be seen, but their addition promises to enrich the horror universe with deeper connections to the source material.
