When A Nightmare on Elm Street was remade back in 2010, and Freddy Krueger was for the very first time played by someone other than Robert Englund, it became quite clear to all die-hard Fred-Heads that we would never again see Englund rocking the Christmas sweater and wearing the iconic makeup.
2003’s Freddy vs. Jason was the last time that Englund played the character he made famous, and it seemed set in stone that it would go down in history as his final performance as the dream demon.
A sad thought, isn’t it? Well be sad no more, because the real Freddy is coming back, for one night only…
The team behind Chicago’s annual Flashback Weekend convention announced today that not only will Robert Englund be appearing at this coming August’s event but that he’ll also be fully dressed as Freddy Krueger on Friday night, posing for special photo-ops with fans. This marks the first time Englund has ever appeared as Freddy at a convention, and it’s promised to be the final time he will ever don the makeup.
Yes, you can get your picture taken with Robert Englund, as Freddy Krueger. Feel free to pinch yourself. Because this isn’t a dream.
As if that wasn’t awesome enough, it’ll be FX legend Robert Kurtzman applying the makeup, who had previously tackled those duties for both Dream Child and New Nightmare. So we’re talking the real deal here, not Englund in a Freddy mask or something lame like that.
In addition to the special autograph signing, Englund will also be appearing onstage as Freddy on Friday night for a live talk show event, hosted by Chicago horror host Svengoolie. Deluxe ticket packages include a picture with Englund and entry to the stage show.
The deluxe package is priced at $365 and all net proceeds from ticket sales go to the Midway Drive-In Digital Projector Fund, intended to help preserve the Illinois theater and keep it operational.
Flashback Weekend takes place at the Chicago Crowne Plaza O’Hare Hotel on August 8th, and you can purchase tickets over on the convention’s official website.
