Robert Englund Speaks About The Original Nightmare Glove At Monsterpalooza 2017!

Published

on

“He wears a dirty brown hat. He’s horribly burned. He has razors on his right hand. His name is Freddy Krueger. He was a child murderer before he died, and after he died, he became something worse.” – Nancy Thompson, A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.

The lights rise as the man of our dreams takes center stage, like a black Friday sale, the crowd goes nuts! Cheering and clapping frantically; finally, guests of Monsterpalooza 2017 are faced with not only their deepest fears but their idol, the man behind the makeup, Robert Englund. “You are all my children now!” he announces, (a favorite fan line from A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge) as he glides across the stage. Moderator Tony Timpone begins: “Here is your first Monsterpalooza you’re the star of the show, yeah! Robert Englund responds, “Don’t say that too loud Kane Hodder is around here somewhere! [Crowd Cheers] He’ll choke me out!

One of the first questions asked of Robert was by moderator Tony Timpone “What brings you to Monsterpalooza. Robert explained, “I’m always working, and it’s great to do the cons here, in Europe, and In Asia, because I always have something coming out. It’s a great chance for me to promote it with the fans and to see the fans and its great fun to see you guys and this show, I can’t tell you the incredible memorabilia I’ve seen. I just saw some phenomenal Turkish posters of Heather [Langenkamp] And I saw an unbelievable opening Day Paris Nightmare 6 3D Poster of Freddy.”

Over the years many fans have wondered what ever happened to the iconic glove used in the original Nightmare, Robert Englund had zero qualms about giving the honest and hilarious explanation:

“The original glove was given to me by Wes for pickup shots on Nightmare 2. In a little MTV stage on Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood, and I went to work, and there was this huge rumor, from you guys [points to moderator Tony Timpone] about industrial espionage because they were the weather vein of popular culture, they knew that this franchise had become even more iconic than we realized. Guys pretended to be crew members on the pickup shot day, in this little studio on Santa Monica Blvd, and they wore tool belts and everything, they were there to get the glove. And we heard about this, Kevin Yager told me this. So, I stole the real glove; I just took it. I didn’t know it came from Wes, I know it now, but I stole it that day. There were like a couple of doubles, but I stole the original glove. I’m busy being Willie from V and going to film festivals, in Paris and getting awards for Science Fiction shows and so I stuffed it, and I outlined it in red and green neon, and I floated it in a plexiglass box, and I gave it to my agent. He won’t give it back!”

“Part of Wes’s genius besides being a double threat writer and director was that Wes kept the 14-year-old boy alive in him, always. And I got to see it that night, he finally decided that he wasn’t just my boss, he wasn’t just my Dr. Frankenstein, he let me see that part of him. He let me see a six foot four grown man giggle like a little girl.” – Robert Englund, Monsterpalooza 2017.

Many fans will spout off that panels are the highlight of a convention, and I couldn’t agree more. These unique panels are the rare opportunity where fans receive that unscripted view into the life and world of these famous horror icons, hearing familiar and unfamiliar stories that will be reminisced on for years to come. I mean, where else can you get up close and personal with the people you have been watching for years? Robert Englund recognizes that a horror fan’s loyalty is real, and he will do his best to make sure the experience of meeting them is great.

Trailer for ‘The Exorcism’ Has Russell Crowe Possessed

Published

on

The latest exorcism movie is about to drop this summer. It’s aptly titled The Exorcism and it stars Academy Award winner turned B-movie savant Russell Crowe. The trailer dropped today and by the looks of it, we are getting a possession movie that takes place on a movie set.

Just like this year’s recent demon-in-media-space film Late Night With the Devil, The Exorcism happens during a production. Although the former takes place on a live network talk show, the latter is on an active sound stage. Hopefully, it won’t be entirely serious and we’ll get some meta chuckles out of it.

The film will open in theaters on June 7, but since Shudder also acquired it, it probably won’t be long after that until it finds a home on the streaming service.

Crowe plays, “Anthony Miller, a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film. His estranged daughter, Lee (Ryan Simpkins), wonders if he’s slipping back into his past addictions or if there’s something more sinister at play. The film also stars Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg and David Hyde Pierce.”

Crowe did see some success in last year’s The Pope’s Exorcist mostly because his character was so over-the-top and infused with such comical hubris it bordered on parody. We will see if that is the route actor-turned-director Joshua John Miller takes with The Exorcism.

28 years later

Danny Boyle is revisiting his 28 Days Later universe with three new films. He will direct the first, 28 Years Later, with two more to follow. Deadline is reporting that sources say Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes have been cast for the first entry, a sequel to the original. Details are being kept under wraps so we don’t know how or if the first original sequel 28 Weeks Later fits into the project.

Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes

Boyle will direct the first movie but it’s unclear which role he will take on in the subsequent films. What is known is Candyman (2021) director Nia DaCosta is scheduled to direct the second film in this trilogy and that the third will be filmed immediately afterward. Whether DaCosta will direct both is still unclear.

Alex Garland is writing the scripts. Garland is having a successful time at the box office right now. He wrote and directed the current action/thriller Civil War which was just knocked out of the theatrical top spot by Radio Silence’s Abigail.

There is no word yet on when, or where, 28 Years Later will start production.

28 Days Later

The original film followed Jim (Cillian Murphy) who wakes from a coma to find that London is currently dealing with a zombie outbreak.
