The great thing about the horror community is that it’s like one big family, which includes both the fans and the stars. And like any family, it’s always a sad day when we lose one of our own.
It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of Ken Weatherwax tonight, who is most known for playing loveable weirdo Pugsley Addams on the original 1960s Addams Family TV series. Just nine years old at the time, Weatherwax was the first actor to ever portray the iconic character, and he reprised the role for the 1977 TV movie Halloween with the New Addams Family.
Though Weatherwax’s acting career came to an end by the time the 1980s rolled around, he worked as a set builder on movie lots for many years, his work oftentimes going uncredited. He was also a regular on the convention circuit and at fan events across the country, always happy to embrace the role that made him a star – and the role that he made famous.
At just 59 years old, Weatherwax died in his California home this past Sunday night, after suffering a heart attack in his sleep. His family says that two funerals are being held: one for the family and one for his loyal fans.
Many actors portrayed Pugsley Addams over the years, but there will forever be only one who did it first. Rest In Peace, Ken Weatherwax. You were one of our own here in the community, and you will be missed.
