Netflix is feeling the love of horror fans this year with the success of their originals Gerald’s Game and Stranger Things 2. Now comes word they will add Mike Flanagan’s hibernating project Before I Wake to the 2018 schedule.
Flanagan is behind the indie hit Absentia and made the much improved sequel Ouija: Origin of Evil.
Before I Wake is already completed, and has been since 2015, but due to financial setbacks from Relativity Media the film has never seen the silver screen.
Not always a horror fan’s best outlet for content, Netflix may be understanding exactly how much the culture means to the industry, especially after the success of this year’s It, Get Out and other films celebrated in the genre.
The trailer for Before I Wake, shows Kate Bosworth and Thomas Jane dealing with a foster child who possess supernatural powers and fears falling asleep.
The boy is played by Jacob Tremblay (Room, Wonder).
Flanagan seems to be sticking with what he knows best and developing another horror series for Netflix, a 10-ep remake of the classic ghost story The Haunting of Hill House.
Before I Wake will premiere on Netflix Jan. 5.
