About a year and a half ago, we told you about Ana Lily Amirpour’s follow-up to A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. It’s a cannibal film called The Bad Batch and stars Jim Carrey, Keanu Reeves, Jason Momoa, Suki Waterhouse, and Diego Luna.
The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where as Deadline reports, Netflix scooped up exclusive streaming rights. Most people discovered A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night on Netflix, so it’s only fitting that they’ll find this one on the streaming platform as well.
As previously described, The Bad Batch is a post-apocalyptic story involving cannibalism in a Texas community. Momoa portrays a cannibal who falls in love with the food. One outlet described it as “Mad Max meets The Texas Chain Saw Massacre“.
Keanu Reeves’ career has taken an interesting turn into our beloved genre lately, eh? This of course follows genre performances in Eli Roth’s Knock Knock and Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon. In fact, interestingly enough, Carrey is working on an upcoming movie from Roth as well.
It’s unclear when Netflix will make The Bad Batch available to stream, but if its acquisition of Mike Flanagan’s Hush earlier this year is any indication, we shouldn’t have to wait too long. Amirpour wrote and directed the film, which like A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, also comes from VICE.
