‘Nail Gun Massacre’ is Getting a Remake!

Published

on

It was only a matter of time. Yes, my friends, remake fever runs very deep – deep enough to infect even the most forgotten of the great ’80s slashers. Today, we are talking about 1985’s Nail Gun Massacre . And no, I am not complaining. I am overjoyed, in fact. I’m a big fan of remakes – if done well – and I think that such a crazy movie has a lot of potential for a good remake.

Robert Hall, who directed Laid to Rest and Fear Clinichas forged an unholy alliance with Texas Frightmare Weekend founder and producer Lord Cryer. In a press statement, Cryer had this to say about the project:

Robert Hall and I have been talking about this for a couple of years and finally we are making it happen. Hall’s film “Lightning Bug” is a personal favorite and obviously with the unmatched death scenes in his “Laid to Rest” series, I found the right guy to bring it to life.

Can’t really argue with that logic there, now can you? Chromeskull is pretty badass.

Hall and Cryer will produce while Hall directs. Nail Gun Massacre will be written by Darren Bevill, writer of 2015’s Appetites. Further details were revealed by Hall in the same press release:

I’ve been really fortunate to have amazing casts in all my films despite the budget and although I can’t reveal anything just yet, Nail Gun will be no different and feature a familiar and stellar cast … It’s going to be a FUN MOVIE for sure, however the new screenplay is really smart and we are pulling back on the camp for sure. It’s an update for today’s demanding audience bringing you WTF superb nail gun kills of course.

I’m ready for this. Are you? What more could you ask in a remake of an 80’s slashic than FUN (spelled with all capitals, no less!) and “WTF superb nail gun kills”. I really think that this is a film that could use a modern update, and from what we’ve learned, it looks like it’s in the right hands.

Even more compelling is the fact that Robert Hall had a good relationship with original director Terry Lofton before he passed in 2011. 2014 saw a rerelease of the film, courtesy of Hall and Code Red Entertainment, so this is obviously a project that he is invested in. Good – and bloody – things are on the horizon.

Nail Gun Massacre will start shooting in Texas late this summer and will be released sometime in 2018.

All aboard the remake train!

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed

Published

on

Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.

This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.

The Burning

The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.

The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.

Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.

Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
