‘My Friend Dahmer’ to be Released Later this Year
It seems like just yesterday we announced the upcoming Joe Berlinger movie about the life of Ted Bundy. Now we are bringing you the news of a new film based around the adolescent years of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. Ironically both actors signed on to portray these killers began their humble acting careers as employees of the Mouse. That’s right, both Efron and now Dahmer star Ross Lynch found their initial fame on the Disney channel.
The film is titled My Friend Dahmer and is based off of a graphic novel penned by Dahmer’s own classmate, Derf Backderf. The biopic is focused on Dahmer’s senior year in high school, a mere three months before the killings began. However, just because the story doesn’t focus on his sadistic cannibalistic acts committed by Dahmer, it doesn’t mean it won’t make your skin crawl.
Dahmer didn’t just wake up with the impulse to kill one morning, and this biopic will examine his bizarre behavior the year before his first kill. Director Marc Meyers wanted to examine the nurture vs nature theme in this film. Was the infamous serial killer born or made?
This movie will reveal the daily bullying Dahmer experienced at the hands of his classmates who chastised him for being gay in an era where it was demonized. To escape from his daily torment at school he would collect roadkill and experiment on the carcasses in his backyard shed. Storing the deceased creatures in jars submerged in chemicals and dissecting others, this peek into Dahmer’s extracurricular activities will chill you to the bone.
At this time his behavior in school began to spiral dangerously downward, and the splintering off from reality deepened. His mental illness might be a reflection of his own mother’s psychological struggles, who is portrayed by actress Anne Heche. Meyers displays how this dysfunctional family as whole cannot operate as a unit, and perhaps this is why Dahmer’s peculiar behavior slipped through the cracks from the lack of parental supervision.
The movie just had its first showing at the Tribeca Film Festival, and is already receiving critical acclaim as “the darkest film of 2017.” It has also gained the high score of 8.3 on IMDB, which is not an easy feat. The biopic is expected to be released later this autumn.

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed
Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.
This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.
The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.
The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.
Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.
Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
