It seems safe to say that the worst thing to ever happen to Hellraiser was for the franchise to fall into the evil clutches of Dimension Films. While Dimension has certainly produced some worthwhile horror films – such as the Scream series – the company failed to treat either Halloween or Hellraiser with much respect.

Then again, at least Michael Myers has never seen his adventures relegated straight to video. That has sadly been the fate for every Hellraiser since 1996’s widely disliked installment Hellraiser: Bloodline.

What’s most frustrating is that Dimension keeps insisting on not letting the rights revert to creator Clive Barker, even if that means pumping out rushed crap like Hellraiser: Revelations. Furthermore, latest sequel Hellraiser: Judgment has been in the can for nearly two years, with Dimension just sitting on it like jerks.

Thanks to Bloody Disgusting though, it looks like we might finally know when we can watch Hellraiser: Judgment. They recently noticed a new Amazon pre-order listing for the sequel, sporting a Blu-Ray release date of February 13th, 2018.

Curiously, the Amazon listing says that Lionsgate is behind the release, and one wonders what that means for Dimension’s future as controller of Hellraiser movies. Did they finally lose the rights, or did Lionsgate just volunteer to help get this long-delayed entry onto store shelves?

For now, your guess is as good as mine on that front. Hopefully, Dimension has finally lost its battle to endlessly keep Hellraiser trapped in its own DTV hell.
