Happy Birthday, Ernie Hudson: The 9 Best Winston Moments

Published

on

Have you ever met anyone who dislikes Ghostbusters? Exactly, they don’t exist. However, love for the paranormal investigators and eliminators has not always been proportionate. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis have always been front and center, while Ernie Hudson has lingered on the margins.

Well, you know what? Not today. Not on Ernie Hudson’s birthday. Today we celebrate the best of Winston Zeddmore.

And it couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy.

Ernie Hudson is a grounded, good dude. I attended my first Comic Con several years ago with one of my best friends, who is a die hard fan of Ghostbusters and The Crow. He wanted to get some items signed by Hudson but found he was a bit late coming back from lunch. The others waiting dispersed to do other things instead of hold out, but while my boy was talking to one of the staff to determine when Huston might return, I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was Ernie Hudson. He said “How you doin’? Havin’ a good time?” After I smilingly responded “Yeah, I’m havin’ a blast,” Hudson extended his hand and said “Hi, I’m Ernie.” All I could do was say “I know who you are, sir. I’m Landon” and shook his hand.

I don’t get star struck, but when someone fully understands that everyone in the building knows his name yet introduces himself so informally? It was just a moment that has always stayed with me. That he spent 15 minutes chatting with my friend one-on-one and the smile my buddy had on his face when he walked away? Yeah, Ernie Hudson deserves all the love we can bestow upon him.

Having said that, iHorror offers the best of Winston Zeddmore on Ernie Hudson’s 71st birthday.

hudson-conI LOVE THIS TOWN!

When the dust settled and the landscape was covered in marshmallow, it was only fitting that Hudson had the last word.

WINSTON WEIGHS IN ON MOOD SLIME

So much screen time was afforded the big three (and for good reason), but this subtle line offered the briefest glimpse that Hudson was as much a part of the team as Venkman, Stanz and Spengler.

FIRE MARSHALL ZEDDMORE

Perhaps I’ve just had a soft spot for Winston my entire life, but as previously stated, when Murray, Aykroyd and Ramis get all the love, I revel in a moment when Hudson got to be a hero. Unfortunately, YouTube didn’t have the clip, so you’ll just have to visualize Winston breaking down the door to save Ray and Egon.

YOU WANNA PLAY ROUGH?

Let’s face it, this is one of the coolest yet cheesiest scenes from the 1984 classic. That said (and despite Ramis), in a way Hudson was the straight man. He needed the job and could not believe what he saw from day-to-day, but when the big battle pissed him off, his was the most intense response to Venkman’s question.

AND SOMEBODY SAID SOMETHING ABOUT A CHECK?

Hey, it’s can’t always be Millah time. You gotta pay the bills, too.

KARMA, KARMA, KARMA, KARMA, KARMA CHAMELEON

The mayor wasn’t buying it, but Hudson opened the door to the sale.

TELL HIM ABOUT THE TWINKIE

Let’s be real, does this clip require an introduction?

JUDGMENT DAY

By now, we all know that the character Hudson portrayed was originally intended to be deeper and more complex, but it just didn’t play that way in the final cut. However, this scene offered a peek behind the curtain of what we could have had, and is by far and away the most spectacular scene Ghostbusters had to offer.

A profound statement to be sure, but nonetheless true thanks to Ernie Hudson.

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed

Published

on

Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.

This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.

The Burning

The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.

The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.

Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.

Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
