One of the films we’ve been following closely here on iHorror is the long-awaited feature adaptation of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series, which will bring many of the books’ most iconic monsters to life. Columbia Pictures has been playing the release date shuffle with the film, and now it’s been bumped to an earlier date.

Originally scheduled for release in April of 2016, Goosebumps has just been moved waaaayyy up to October 2015, now set to begin its theatrical release on October 16th. Yes, just in time for this year’s Halloween, we’ll all be given the chance to feel those nostalgic Goosebumps on the big screen – six months earlier than expected!

In the Rob Letterman-directed film, Jack Black stars as R.L. Stine, the story centering on the various monsters from the books being unleashed upon the real world. It’ll be up to Stine and two teenagers to put the monsters back into the books, before it’s too late.

For those who missed it, be sure to check out the reveal of all the Goosebumps movie monsters, which should look quite familiar to longtime fans of the property!

Jack Black Goosebumps

In Goosebumps, upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series.

It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange… he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.
