“Welcome to King’s Dominion” – Saya
The creative duo of Anthony and Joe Russo – directors of this little gem called Avengers: Infinity War (you may have heard of it) – are set to be executive producers for Syfy’s adaptation of the critically acclaimed action/horror comic book series Deadly Class.
Deadly Class was written and created by Rick Remender for Image Comics with illustrator and artist Wesley Craig. The series’ first issue was released on January 22nd, 2014 and continues to produce new material on a monthly basis.
The Deadly Crew:
The show’s pilot script was written by Rick Remender and series co-creator/producer Miles Orion Feldsott. It’s comforting to see that the writer and creator of the original comic series has returned for the TV adaptation – hopefully this means it will stay true to the source material.
The pilot episode is directed by Lee Toland Krieger (Riverdale). Adam Targum (Outcast) will serve as showrunner as well as executive producer.
Official Synopsis Deadly Class:
“Set in a dark, comic book world against the backdrop of late 80’s counter culture, DEADLY CLASS follows a homeless teen recruited into a storied elite private school where the world’s top crime families send their next generations.
Maintaining his moral code while surviving a ruthless curriculum, vicious social cliques and his own adolescent uncertainties soon proves to be vital.”
The clip below gives an excellent glimpse into the Deadly Class universe, which appears to have an abundance of original characters and deeply rooted mythology (which opens up the possibility of potential spin-offs if Deadly Class turns out to be a success).
According to the Russo brothers “there is nothing like this on television”, so we should be in for a treat.
Given the critical acclaim of Channel Zero – now in it’s fourth season – and the upcoming George R.R. Martin adaptation Nightflyers – which has been described my Martin himself as “Psycho in space” – Syfy appears to be on the fast track to becoming one of the top providers of brilliant original television.
The Deadly Cast:
Benedict Wong (Sunshine, Prometheus) as Master Lin, Benjamin Wadsworth (Teen Wolf) as Marcus, Lana Condor (X-Men: Apocalypse) as Saya, Maria Gabriela de Faria (Yo Soy Franky) as Maria, Luke Tennie as Willie, Liam James (The Family) as Billy, and Michel Duval (Senora Acero) as Chico.
Deadly Class is set to premiere in 2019.
