Courtesy of Fox, here’s the full new trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes. The film opens on July 14, 2017.
War for the Planet of the Apes, which is the third film in the Apes reboot series, takes place two years after the events of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. War for the Planet of the Apes was directed by Matt Reeves, who also co-wrote the film with Mark Bomback.
War for the Planet of Apes follows Caesar and the apes, who continue to be embroiled in a war against the remaining army of humans. As the apes and humans suffer heavy casualties, Caesar grapples with his conflicting feelings, torn between thoughts of revenge and his relationship with humanity. Caesar goes to war against the humans’ leader, a ruthless Colonel, and the result will determine the fate of both the ape species and humankind.
The makers of War for the Planet of the Apes describe this third installment as taking the form of a western, with the iconic Caesar occupying the Clint Eastwood role. Following the contained setting of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, War for the Planet of the Apes takes place on a much larger scale, which required the production to utilize many more sets. The main difference between War for the Planet of the Apes and the two previous films is that the apes are a much larger focus in this film. The filmmakers promise that the apes will appear in well over ninety percent of the finished film.
Regarding the cast, Andy Serkis as Caesar remains the constant in the series. Serkis is joined in the cast by Steve Zahn, who plays a chimpanzee. Woody Harrelson plays the main human antagonist, who is known as The Colonel.
