After a seven-year hiatus, next month brings fans the return of the Saw franchise, with the simply titled Jigsaw. Plot details for the Spierig Brothers’ (Daybreakers) film have been kept pretty vague, although we do know that it concerns the investigation of new game-based murders by what looks to be a Jigsaw copycat.
Tobin Bell has been confirmed to return as Jigsaw, presumably once again in flashback form, since he’s been dead since Saw III. Such are the perils of making a terminal cancer patient the main character.
A few of the new cast members include Laura Vandervoort (Bitten), Callum Keith Rennie (The Man in the High Castle), Brittany Allen (It Stains the Sands Red), Matt Passmore (The Glades), and Cle Bennett (Heroes Reborn).
As any horror fan knows, the Saw series has some of the most tightly wound continuity between installments in the genre, leading many fans to have made it a habit to re-watch prior films before each new sequel. After such a long layoff, that’s now of even more importance to understanding Jigsaw’s latest game.
Thankfully, those who subscribe to Amazon Prime streaming now have an easy way to refresh their Saw memories, as the entire franchise has recently been added to the service. All seven films, all available to watch anytime. There’s less than two months remaining to catch up, so it might be wise to start now.
For those – like me – who own the Saw series on DVD or Blu-Ray, this can still also be of use, as streaming removes the – admittedly minor – annoyance of switching discs between films. Ah, streaming, how you’ve made lazy movie watching so much easier.
Anyway, one can find all the Saw films in a single convenient list on Amazon by clicking here. Happy viewing, and remember, Jigsaw hits theaters on October 27th.
