Video game movies have had a rough time, almost every one to come out has been a disaster in one form or another.  Even the Warcraft movie by the behemoth that is Blizzard failed to impress certain fans and critics.  Well now Gearbox Software have revealed their plans for a Duke Nukem movie as well as releasing an update for the upcoming Borderlands movie.

Both Duke Nukem and Borderlands have never taken themselves seriously, knowing that they are a silly and ridiculous video game and chose to embrace that idea wholeheartedly.  If the movies have any chance of appeasing both fans of the games and critics alike they have to stick close to the source material and be just as goofy and off the wall as both gaming franchises have been over the years.

With it being over a year since the last update on the Borderlands movie Gear Box CEO Randy Pitchford gave an update on the movie during a Youtube interview with Geoff Keighley.

We’ve been developing scripts and the strategy that were on right now is, that it’s all obviously all in the Borderlands universe, but rather than retell the
stories that were in the game, well create new stories so the films will have their own film canon. We’ll use all the characters and scenarios, it’s similar
to what Marvel is doing. You can’t read any particular film plot in a comic book, but there’s a lot of the characters, themes, and, in fact, some of the
situations are represented.

Pitchford didn’t stop there however, after a Duke Nukem movie was jokingly brought up Pitchford had more to say on the subject.

We’re working on Duke Nukem! I can’t announce it but it’s blown my mind, there’s been a lot of production companies that have come at us. We’re putting together a deal right now with a major motion picture studio; I’ll tell you off the record if you want to know. It’s the exact right people that should be doing a Duke Nukem film and well see what happens. It’s unbelievable, and I think that’s very likely to be a thing.

After the travesty that was Duke Nukem Forever fans may be weary of anything new involving Duke, myself included, but Pitchford sounds confident in the project. As always we at Ihorror will keep you updated as any new information surfaces on Duke’s return.
