Hey, do you remember Critters? It was a series of films that began in 1986 and ended in 1992, and centered on the arrival to earth of ravenous alien creatures called Krites.
Krites were concerned with one thing and one thing only: eating and lots of it. This very much included delicious, meaty human beings.
Yet, the Krite puppets were also pretty adorable, making them one of the more likeable murderous alien races out there. Especially cute was when they would roll around like a ball at lightning speed.
Now, after more than 25 years in hiatus, Critters is coming back, thanks to Verizon’s go90 free streaming service. The Krites will star in Critters: A New Binge, which adapts the franchise into a TV series, according to Variety.
It’s unclear if any actors from the Critters films will return for A New Binge, but franchise producers Rupert Harvey and Barry Opper are coming back to oversee things. That will hopefully at least ensure some level of continuity.
As for the plot, Critters: A New Binge will see Krites head back to Earth in search of one of their own, who was left behind during a previous mission.
The Krites land in Burbank, California, and naturally don’t waste much time in targeting new human snacks. Human, the other other white meat.
Here’s hoping that A New Binge sees the Krites once again realized through puppetry, and not through TV-quality CGI. Something tells me the little monsters wouldn’t be nearly as charming when done with computers.
