If scary clowns aren’t your thing, the past two years probably haven’t been very good to you. Between the real-life sightings of clowns that seemed to be a nightmare come to life for coulrophobes everywhere, and the widespread coverage of the new It reboot, one can’t help but feel for those with a deep fear of clowns. But now, things seem to be getting worse. Come Saturday 9th, 2017, a clown-only screening of It will take place at Alamo Drafthouse in Austin.
Clown-only as in, if you’re not a clown, you’re not getting in. Hi, Georgie!
For this special Clown screening of IT, all attendees should arrive dressed as a clown in order to attend. Please arrive early and join us in the Barrel O’ Fun beginning at 5:30pm for an IT pre-party where we will have face-painters available for clown “touch-ups”, a photo booth, raffles for prizes, and other terrifying merriment. Please arrive in your own Pennywise best and be ready to float with us.
Look, I’m not particularly scared of clowns, but I can say with full confidence that a theater full of clowns watching a horror movie gives me the chills regardless. It doesn’t really even matter if the movie ends up being scary; a clown-only viewing is scary enough. WIth that said, however, those who are up for the challenge should start preparing their costumes and ordering tickets now. You wouldn’t want to be the only lonely clown watching the movie at home by itself, would you? No. I didn’t think so.
The idea comes from a comment from a Facebook user reacting negatively to the Drafthouse’s decision to hold a woman-only screening for Wonder Woman.
Right on, Drafthouse. What a way to deal with internet trolls. Be careful what you wish for – even if you’re just clownin’ around.
It premieres for everyone over the age of 17 – clown or not – on September 8th.
