Latest American Horror Story Promo Video Goes Retro

Written by John Squires

What the hell. We’re so confused.

FX has been unleashing new American Horror Story Season 6 promo videos left and right, and yet, we still have no idea what the theme of the new season is going to be. It’s set to premiere on September 14th, and until that night, the network seems keen on keeping literally EVERYTHING secret. This latest teaser, well, it’s not quite like the others. While they were all creepy, this one is campy.

Titled ‘Blind Date,’ the new teaser evokes the feeling of classic ’50s era creature features, namely Universal’s Creature from the Black Lagoon. In it, a young sorority gal is pulled underwater by a green monster, and we’re thinking this might be another teaser that FX whipped up to confuse us even further, rather than give us clues as to Season 6’s theme and storyline.

Last week, after all, FX CEO John Landgraf revealed that MOST of the teasers are misdirects…

We decided, Ryan [Murphy] and I and [marketing president] Stephanie Gibbons, that it would be really fun this year… to keep it a mystery,” he said. “There is a theme and a setting and a place and time, but we’re not going to reveal it. One is accurate; all the rest are misdirect.

According to recent reports, the new season will be set in two different time periods, but primarily in the present. Recent set photos obtained by TMZ strongly suggest that Season 6 is centered on the real-life Roanoke Colony, though we wouldn’t be surprised if even that was a brilliant misdirect. Those FX folks are sneaky bastards, and we kinda love it.

Lady Gaga, Angela Bassett and Cheyenne Jackson have all confirmed their Season 6 involvement. Jessica Lange, however, will not be returning.

Could Kevin Bacon Ever Play Freddy Krueger!?

As horror fans, it is our job – no, duty – to get overly excited and analyze just about everything. Your daily fix of possibly-maybe-who-knows excitement fuel comes courtesy of Kevin Bacon on Twitter. Check it out:

Bacon

For those of you who don’t know how Twitter works, Twitter user Bettie Toxic posed a question to Bacon, and not only did he reply, but he reposted it on his own account. Is that saying anything? Who knows. But, it does say that he’s clearly into at least entertaining the possibility.

So, this post doesn’t really announce anything, and that’s important to note. So don’t get it twisted. This is still super cool. We know by know that Robert Englund isn’t coming back to play Freddy Krueger, so it’s time to start being optimistic and looking in other places. Although I’ve already expressed my opinions with this post here – I suppose that there are, in fact, some avenues that I hadn’t considered at the time. Kevin Bacon? That actually makes a lot of sense. He’s a great actor, and he got his roots in one of the most popular horror films of all time. From playing a victim in Friday the 13th to one of the biggest horror villains ever – could you imagine!? It would be overwhelmingly great.

At this point, we don’t have any more information for you about a new A Nightmare on Elm Street film, but when we do, you’ll know. Until then, we will all collectively be waiting and hoping in anticipation.

Thanks to Bloody Disgusting for bringing this to our attention.

Fan Lightens Up New Pennywise Image; Much Better Look!

Written by John Squires

Earlier today, Entertainment Weekly showed off the first full image of Bill Skarsgard as the brand new Pennywise in Andy Muschietti’s two-part adaptation of Stephen King’s IT, and like their original tease of the makeup, it was a bit too dark to really get a good feel for the costume. So one fan took it upon himself to lighten up the image, which really gives us a better idea of the overall look.

Check it out below, courtesy of Movieweb!

Jaeden Lieberher is playing Bill Denbrough, the leader of The Losers’ Club. He’ll be starring alongside Finn Wolfhard as Richie Tozier, Wyatt Oleff as Stanley Uris, Chosen Jacobs as Mike Hanlon, Jack Dylan Grazer as Eddie Kaspbrak, Sophia Lillis as Beverly Marsh, and Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben Hanscom. Owen Teague is also part of the cast, playing teen bully Patrick Hockstetter.

The first film, hitting theaters on September 8th, 2017, is expected to be Rated R.

Stephen King’s It book synopsis…

Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real.

They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made twenty-eight years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that terrifying summer return as they prepare to once again battle the monster lurking in Derry’s sewers.

Tech-Thriller “Morgan” Continues the Scott Dynasty

The Scott name in filmmaking has become legendary with brothers Ridley and Tony making some of the most iconic films in the last 40 years including Alien, Blade Runner, The Hunger, True Romance, and Prometheus. Ridley’s son, Luke Scott, continues the filmmaking family dynasty with his feautre directorial debut, Morgan, a new techno-paranoia thriller preying on the fear of the unknown. Luke Scott is no stranger to Sci-Fi having made the impressive short film Loom back in 2012. Loom was an accomplishment as the short was made to showcase the new 4K RED camera technology. Scott took the opportunity to make a truly satisfying dystopian short that not only looked great, but told a compelling story. I was very impressed with Loom and am excited to see what Scott can do with a feature length film.

Morgan looks to satisfy fans of techno-paranoia driven works like The Twilight Zone and Black Mirror, pressing hard on our fears of what we don’t understand. In the movie, Morgan is the result of a successful experiment combining human and bio engineered synthetic DNA. As with most Sci-Fi films where people try to create the “next step in human evolution”, it does not end well. Luke Scott’s eye for composition and color is displayed and boosted by a creepy soundtrack in the trailer.

Shrouded in mystery, the title character Morgan is an enigma for the audience, while the second trailer reveals the film might have more slasher elements in the third act. Along with Ridley Scott producing, the film boosts an impressively stellar cast featuring Kate Mara, Paul Giamatti, Toby Jones, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. The film showcases the potential future of biological engineering and evolution utilizing sleek and intelligent filmmaking.

Synopsis: A corporate troubleshooter (Kate Mara) is sent to a remote, top-secret location, where she is to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident.  She learns the event was triggered by a seemingly innocent “human,” who presents a mystery of both infinite promise and incalculable danger.

Find out what Morgan is September 2nd, in theaters everywhere.

American Horror Story Coming to Halloween Horror Nights 2016; Find Out Which Seasons Will Be Featured!

Written by John Squires

Halloween Horror Nights 2016 is shaping up to be the annual event’s most awesome outing to date, with horror classics Halloween, The Exorcist and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre joining attractions based on Freddy vs. Jason and even last year’s Krampus. How much better could HHN 2016 get? Well, they’ve just added one of their most requested haunts EVER!

From the official Universal blog

So this brings us to our last reveal and one our team has been excited about bringing to HHN for quite some time – FX’s American Horror Story. This all-new house will feature Season 1: Murder House, Season 4: Freak Show and Season 5: Hotel.

Since this fantastic series began we’ve been watching and calculating how – if ever given the chance – we would translate it into a haunted experience. The most engaging aspect of American Horror Story is the fact that every season is a completely new storyline, with brand new environments and characters, not unlike Halloween Horror Nights.

First, we needed to decide how to capture all that content into a single house. The uber-maze or larger template we’ve adopted, most recently with our popular 25th Anniversary maze last year, was the most ideal format. You’ll be confronted by the horrors that reside within the walls of the newly bought Harmon residence and evade the abominations that call it’s basement home. You’ll witness the atrocities that befell many of the unfortunate souls of a roadside Freak Show and encounter Twisty, a maniacal and deformed clown performer. Lastly, you will check into the Hotel Cortez and unlock the domain of The Countess, as she ensures your stay is anything but pleasant.

These three seasons will be vividly recreated in every detail – environments characters and moments. We’ve worked extremely close with the series creator, Ryan Murphy and 20th Century Fox, to insure it captures the series in every way possible.

Halloween Horror Nights 2016 runs from September 16th through October 31st.

Mark Duplass Tweets That Creep 2 Is on the Way

Written by John Squires

We’ve missed you, Peachfuzz.

One of the most fascinating horror films you can watch on Netflix right now is Patrick Brice’s Creep, a found footage flick that was one of our favorite horror movies released last year. In the film, Mark Duplass plays a super creep by the name of Josef, and his captivating performance alone is worth the price of admission. Josef is a character we’d love to see more of, and we’re happy to report that both Duplass and Brice feel the same way.

Over on Twitter today, @MarkDuplass indicated that pre-production on Creep 2 has begun.

Trying on wardrobe today for CREEP 2,” he wrote. “This one is gonna get a little bit weird.”

Back in 2014, Duplass indicated that he and Brice are planning on turning Creep into a trilogy.

Again, if you haven’t yet watched Creep on Netflix, you should do that at your earliest convenience.

In the film…

When a videographer answers a Craigslist ad for a one-day job in a remote mountain town, he finds his client (Duplass) is not at all what he initially seems.

Mike Flanagan’s Before I Wake No Longer Releasing in 2016

Written by John Squires

One of the horror films we were excited to check out in the remainder of 2016 was Before I Wake, the latest directorial effort of hot up-and-comer Mike Flanagan (Oculus, Hush). The film, shot way back in 2013, had been pushed back so many times that it became hard to keep track, but it seemed that the September 9th date was finally locked and the wait was over.

But the wait, we’re sad to report today, is very much NOT over.

Over on Twitter this afternoon, Flanagan (@flanaganfilm) broke the depressing news that Before I Wake has been pushed back AGAIN, and it looks like it will no longer be released this year. This is, according to my calculations, the FIFTH time that Flanagan’s supernatural thriller has been bumped by Relativity, originally scheduled for release in May of 2015.

Flanagan is not happy right now, and we totally feel his pain.

Can’t believe I have to type this again – BEFORE I WAKE is being bumped off its 9/9 release date,” Flanagan tweeted. “Relativity just not ready. Words fail.”

BEFORE I WAKE deserved so, so much better than this,” he added.

In the film, Jessie and Mark decide to take in a sweet and loving 8-year-old boy, Cody. Unbeknownst to them, Cody is terrified of falling asleep. At first they assume his previous unstable homes caused his aversion to sleep but soon discover why: Cody’s dreams manifest in reality as he sleeps.

In one moment they experience the incredible wonder of Cody’s imagination and in the next the horrific nature of his night terrors. To save their new family, Jessie and Mark embark on a dangerous hunt to uncover the truth behind Cody’s nightmares.

Before I Wake stars Kate Bosworth, Thomas Jane, Jacob Tremblay, Dash Mihok and Annabeth Gish.

Pennywise Fully Revealed in New IT Adaptation Image!

Written by John Squires

We learned not all that long ago that actor Bill Skarsgard was cast to play Pennywise in Andy Muschietti’s upcoming two-part adaptation of IT, and it wasn’t long before a teaser image provided us with a glimpse of the new makeup. Based on that image, it was hard to get a feel of what the new Pennywise really looked like, but now we have the full reveal that shows him off in all his creepy glory.

Per Entertainment Weekly, check out your new Pennywise below!

There is almost a doll-like quality to the costume,” designer Janie Bryant told EW. “The pants being short, the high waistline of the jacket, and the fit of the costume is a very important element. It gives the character a child-like quality.” She added that the costume, “…definitely incorporates all these otherworldly past lives, if you will. He is definitely a clown from a different time.
