The casting news about Castle Rock just keeps on coming. It was recently announced that Melanie Lynskey (XX, I Don’t Feel At Home in This World Anymore) will join Sissy Spacek, Jane Levy and André Holland on the cast of Hulu’s upcoming Stephen King anthology series.
If you’ve been living under a castle-sized rock for the past few months and are unaware about what the heck Castle Rock even is, well, let me tell you. The show – produced by J.J. Abrams and brought to us by Hulu, Bad Robot, and Warner Bros. Television – is described as “a psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse… Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller — a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.”
Castle Rock has landed a 10-episode first season order, with Hulu describing the project as an “ongoing series”. This means it’s not limited to the 10-episode run, so we could potentially see a lot more to come from the show.
With the series set as an anthology, the world is opened up. Characters can come and go, stories can unfold and cross over. With the vast universe of Stephen King as the guiding light, there’s a lot of stories to explore.
Lynskey will play Molly Strand, a woman with a rare medical condition who’s barely scraping by as a real estate agent in a town where every third property is the site of someone’s worst nightmare.
The New Zealand-born actress is well known in the world of quirky genre projects. She recently appeared in “The Birthday Party” segment of XX and started her career with roles in The Frighteners, Detroit Rock City and Peter Jackson’s Heavenly Creatures. She made her television debut in Rose Red, so like her co-star, Sissy Spacek, this will not be her first time working in the world of Stephen King.
