This weekend saw Scarefest come to Lexington, KY. I had a chance to speak with Cary Elwes, who in between pushes to check out his book on Amazon, said we should encourage everyone to go see Saw when it returns to theaters next month.

If the powers that be are impressed with the turnout, he said, “You know what that means?”

“A remake?” I responded.

No. Another film apparently, and Elwes said that hopefully they’d call him back for it.

Now, I see over at Dread Central that he suggested a TV series to another attendee (with a smile). He did not mention a television series in our conversation, but from the sound of it, Elwes  would just be happy to return to the franchise one way or another.

The Dread Central piece notes that Elwes said back in 2011 that “his agreement with the filmmakers always was to re-appear in the final Saw movie, almost like a bookend to the series.”

I can’t say I’d be surprised with either direction – a movie or a television series – or even if both were to be produced. The trend these days certainly does favor the TV route. Time will tell. Either way, the amount of money the re-release brings in could play a role in the future of the franchise.
