When James Wan’s terrifying 2013 film The Conjuring took the box office by storm, it’s unlikely that most would have imagined that the tale of Ed and Lorraine Warren battling demons would go on to have three follow-ups in four years.
That’s exactly what happened though, with the first of course being 2014’s Annabelle, a spin-off dedicated to recounting what appeared to be the original demonic possession of the titular creepy doll that captivated audiences during her relatively brief appearances in The Conjuring.
2016 brought the world The Conjuring 2, a proper sequel to the original, featuring the return of actors Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as the Warrens. With that out of the way, Annabelle is set to get her own follow-up this summer, titled Annabelle: Creation.
Warner Bros. has released the first full trailer for Annabelle: Creation, which you can check out below, and try not to get too unsettled by Annabelle’s latest round of supernatural creepiness.
Annabelle: Creation is actually a prequel to its predecessor, taking the story all the way back to the original creation of the Annabelle doll. While the first Annabelle implied that the 70s was the first time she had been possessed, that seemingly wasn’t the case, as this earlier version of Annabelle is clearly just as evil as before.
Annabelle: Creation possesses theaters on August 11, 2017, and is directed by David F. Sandberg, helmer of the iHorror Award winning Lights Out. Gary Dauberman – writer of the original Annabelle – returns to pen the script.
Cast members include Stephanie Sigman (Spectre), Anthony LaPaglia (Without a Trace), Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings), and Lulu Wilson (Ouija: Origin of Evil.)
