It was recently speculated that the new season of American Horror Story would have a bit of a futuristic twist, but a group of dedicated fans have done some digging to determine what that may mean for Season 8. Their new findings seem to point in a promising (yet still unofficial) direction, and we think you’re gonna like it.
AHS fan Twitter account @ahsleak has found that a new trademark has been filed for the title “American Horror Story: Radioactive”.

“So what?” you may say. Well, it’s worth noting that a similar trademark had been filed for AHS: Cult prior to its official announcement. Intriguing.
American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy had hinted at a potential “futuristic” theme in a recent interview, saying “All I’ll say about it is I want to go to the future – still topical, but the future, which I’ve never done.”
A post-apocalyptic radioactive storyline would certainly be something we could qualify as “the future”. That being said, it could even hint at a future radioactive threat that ties in with the political overtones of AHS: Cult, or a catastrophic event like the Chernobyl accident.
Murphy had also said in a 2016 interview with the Hollywood Reporter that while AHS: Roanoke‘s mystery theme may not carry through to seasons 7 and 8, there are overarching plans to connect the seasons:
“You’ll see [seasons starting to come together] this season, and then you’ll really see it after this season. We lay a lot of pipe, and you’ll see it explode in seasons seven and eight.”
Another Twitter fan account, @AHS_FreakyNews, has also made a connection to the potentially radioactive theme, referencing imagery from openings of seasons past. This certainly stays in line with Murphy’s previous comments about a desire to tie the seasons together.

There are no official details on a release date or casting yet, but it’s probably safe to say that fan favorite Sarah Paulson is set to return.
In a late-2017 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sarah Paulson (Murphy’s constant collaborator and muse) commented, “I have said before to that anything he decides to come up with, I’m always so game and on board with because it’s obviously been a wild ride for me. But there have been some preliminary conversations. I hope it’s the one I hope it is; let’s put I that way. I’ve heard more than one idea and there’s one in particular I really hope lands.”
Again, this is all speculation so of course this should be taken with a grain of salt. But we’ll be sure to keep you updated with more news as it comes!
